At Joshua Tree National Park, which is open but unstaffed, local do-gooders have been emptying trash cans, scrubbing toilets, and restocking toilet paper –– all of their own volition.https://n.pr/2GHpaBZ

Beautiful & so generous of folks to do this, but I wish they wouldn't. If people saw overflowing trash bins & filthy bathrooms, they'd realize just how vital the "non-essential" govt employees are.

So instead of fixing the problem by people’s own accord and voluntarily benefitting the parks, you’re suggesting we let the parks go to shit and wait for the government to save us? Do you see how counterproductive that is? I bet you believe free college is actually free.

Open but unstaffed? But the Obama presidency taught me that a shutdown meant we can't go to parks. Where are the barricades and government employees strong-arming citizens?

50%+ of the people employed by the government are superfluous and are are paid with money earned by American citizens, forcibly confiscated by the state (tax dollars)...I would prefer these folks secure employment in the private sector and contribute to our nation’s spending!?

2.1 million federal employees (not including postal Svc, which is pd separately), 800,000 “nonessential”, plus likelihood that some “essential” are superfluous...could easily be 50%. Wow, I’m actually surprised by that. Sad!
