Agreed. Many people failed that young man.

No the rule for wrestler because of safety reasons is if your hair isn’t long enough to tie back then it has to be short. Every high school wrestler knows that. This kid wanted to wrestle and broke the rule he had the option of not but asked for it to be cut then
-
Then it should have been brought up at weigh in and not 90 seconds before a match.
-
And he had the right to cover his hair but the referee didn't let him. Also there were white folks with hair of similar length but that was fine. And besides he had obviously wrestled before and the hair hadn't been an issue before. And the referee had made racist remarks before.
-
No there wasn’t please upload a pic of a white boy with hair that length that competed. I bet you won’t find one so you just made that up

Yeah, fuck that guy. Shouldn’t let the racist pig around any children.
-
Wow, NPR made this sound one sided and racist. I originally heard it was against rules and regulations and that his coach was just as responsible for not letting the kid know before hand that it could cause trouble. May the good lord shine his light on the truth whatever it is
-
I won’t dive into the minutia but how did this guy get into a tournament if it was against rules and regs? He, a grown man wanted to impose himself upon this young man.

-
Very important point here. This wasn’t his first match ever. How was it OK for his hair to be that length for all his other matches but not OK for this one?
-
That is a good question

The other students participating on the team, the head coach, parents, etc should have stood up for him! Should have forfeited just for respect of humility!
-
And for humanity!!!!!

This should have been addressed at the weigh-in and not mat-side. He wore this cap all the way to this match with no issue. Shocking. The coach should definitely have stepped in at least.
-
he was late to his weigh in. not an excuse for the refs awful decision.
-
The ref was late. Not the student.
-
you're correct. i was wrong. for the record the ref was an ass either way, i wasnt trying to defend him. but i misread the article. I'm a dumbass. may god have mercy on my soul.
-
No worries dude, everyone misreads sometimes. May just want to go thru and make sure you correct yourself. Misinformation builds up.

Yes , I wondered why the adults didn’t step up and defend this young man?
-
Defend him that he should be the only wrestler who violates hair rules for their own safety so it doesn’t get caught in equipment? Why Every other kid in the country follows the rule this kid broke it and was called out and wanted it cut then he should’ve never showed up like
-
The ref “failed to raise any issues with the length of his hair or the need to wear a head covering.” Later, “Maloney rejected the covering that Johnson wore over his hair, and then started the clock, giving the wrestler 90 seconds to cut his hair or forfeit the match.”
-
So basically. Cut your hair or lose! 90 seconds to choose ! A form of extortion! This issue should have been covered before the match.
