The uniformed troops will likely be active-duty Army, with perhaps some Army Reserve and Marines. They will be engineers, planners and military police. Pilots and aircraft will assist transporting CBP personnel.

How will this shift in men and materials affect the abilities of combat deployed troops? Everything has to come from somewhere else.

Then why are they being deployed? Sounds like a huge waste of tax payer money if 5,000 troops are being sent to the border to do what -- take photos?

Trump will still get to brag to his base about all of the “soldiers” he’s sending to guard the border. They won’t question any of it.
