“The only good thing is that the haters are out in public now, when before, they were hidden.” -Matthew Shepard’s father Listening to this man and his wife speaking about their son made me cry My overwhelming feeling is shame. Shame in a country that I don’t recognize any more.

My daughter went to a GSA conference last week and they were told Matthew's story. I hope he would be proud to know that, even now, his memory is helping to foster compassion.

So sad that they felt they had to wait 29 years for people to let their son respectfully Rest In Peace.

This horrific crime defined my young adulthood as a gay man and galvanized the nation and the LGBTQ community. While the sacrifice was too great, it was not for nothing. If there is such a thing as a gay saint and martyr, it is Matthew. He would have been a middle aged man by now

Rest in Peace, Sweetheart ~ a year after we wrote the script for Brokeback Mountain, they found you tied to a fence 5 minutes from where my daughter
@Hotspur33 lived. We miss you still...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

So because he was a troubled kid, it was OK to set him on fire? Jesus wept.

I work with the homeless, substance abusers, victims, and the people who most in society ignore. Show me where I said anything like that? Did you actually read the article?
-
Read the article, but perhaps I overreacted. Just seemed like they were saying since Matthew wasn't a perfect kid that it was to be expected he should come to a bad end. I apologize for being abrupt. Was at his service, and the Fred Phelps family were just horrible.

This is pretty low for a political stunt by the Democrats.
-
And sending pipebombs to Democrats isn’t?
-
@carneinsideyou it is an exercise in futility to argue with irrational people.
