For generations, the word "nationalist" was used interchangeably with "patriotism." But patriotism, at least in the dictionary, does not imply a belief that one's own country is superior to others.https://n.pr/2PYKVxH

Nationalism doesn’t imply that either. I’m from here. It’s the country I care about. I want my leaders to put my country’s welfare before that of others. Is that bad? That’s how I take it.

White and black nationalism? Jack Snyder coined it ethnic nationalism-loyalty to language, religion, etc. Trump also refers to civic nationalism-loyalty to a set of principles and ideas we all can rally around as Americans. Don't seperate us by race.

'Nationalism' too is not talking about the superiority of a nation or a state. It is the journalistic 'factoid' which has gained currency in the last few decades.

The fucking grammar here is all over the place “nationalist” would go with “Patriot”, describing a person. “Nationalism” and “patriotism” would go together as a set of ideas. But never would “nationalist” and “patriotism” go together. SMH. “Journalists”

The dictionary definition of nationalism is loyalty to own country. Putting one s country s need above others. Black Nationalism from the 70's Black Panthers or White Nationalism are different terms.

Also the USA isn’t a nation state. A nation state is a state made up of people primarily of the same ethnic background, religious practices, language etc etc. So the idea of an American being a “nationalist” is completely seeded in racist bullshit.

Arrogance and stupidity lead to WWI. America would not have ended WWI & WWII without a nationalist unity and patriotism

You should read an American history book. How did we beat the British in '76 and 1812? Then race across the continent.

None of that has anything to do with Nationalism. In fact, our founding was to separate ourselves from Britain. You can't be nationalistic - in any sense of the word - if you don't have a nation.
