From @StoryCorps: On their first date, Irakere Picon told Arianna Hermosillo that he was undocumented. He works as an immigration lawyer, and the couple, now married, face anxieties related to his status.https://n.pr/2yrxG1B

NOT being snarky. How do you get a law degree and married if you are not a legal citizen? Born in Ohio and yet I had to show 2 forms of ID(BC and a DL) to get a marriage license in the county I was born, live and work in?

The term that the federal statutes use is "illegal alien." He brok US law by coming here. Why can't you honestly report the very basics?

I heard this on my way to work. It is a beautiful story. It's ridiculous that these two have to worry about his immigration status.

When u look at the long history of law in this country u find a myriad of stories that combine law + compassion. Precedents have been set that show we can treat each other as valued human beings. Try viewing this through that lens. We're stronger as a nation when we work togetger

Once again. Immigrants happily welcomed if done within the law. End of story.

Life and humanity are messy. Saying "end of story" ends nothing. The situation still exists. Our choice is to deal with it compassionately or not compassionately. But not dealing with it is not an option.

So abide by the law and deal with it. Apply for citizenship like any other law abiding immigrant.

Think back 2 a time in yr life when u were in a painful situation not of yr own making. If someone had just say Deal w/ it, would that have helped? Dreamers R here. They contribute 2 our country. Let's figure out a compassionate solution 4 our entire community. Including them.

Immigration Status is also putting white and black Americans lives on "pause" from getting married, because we can't pay our loans, because immigrants are preferred in the hiring process to meet workplace diversity requirements.

I don't get how he was admitted to the bar. They conduct FBI background checks and any violation of the law has to be explained. I know people who were held up for years due to too many traffic tickets.

With the amount of unlawful presence he's accrued he'd have to leave the country and wait ten years to get any sort of status.
