Local governments in California are under pressure to build new housing in areas at risk of wildfire because of a severe housing shortage. And with climate change making fires more extreme, their decisions will affect lives for decades to come.https://n.pr/2NKigdD

How about clearing the deadfall like California used to do and fires will be less "extreme!"

How about denser housing? At some point the limits of where it is responsible to build single family homes is reached. Is this that point?

Build them from rammed earth/non-flammable materials, plant more trees and foliage to create natural wind breaks and help re-seed clouds in the air/moisture in the soil so fires aren’t as bad, implement housing density/reduction in single family homes/sprawl reduction, etc.

The same consideration should be given to rebuilding along coastal areas, repeatedly hit by hurricanes. Their chances of being hit, again, are even higher. Why let them rebuild in an area doomed to be hit, again?

http://www.cafiresafecouncil.org  is one example of organizations that help communities become fire safe. It is possible to do but will cost more. Several such communities have survived massive fires with little to do afterwards but wash the ash from driveways.

Cities need to build up, especially around transportation hubs. Building in the forest is nothing but detrimental to all concerned.
