There’s a massive shortage of long haul truck drivers, instead of sitting around complaining, man up do the hard thing, get out there and find a job to support your family. Get your CDL and go make enough to pay the bills and even have some left over for the savings account.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say this comment is justtttt a little short sighted.

And when those jobs are gone....maybe go find another one? Not hard. There’s plenty of jobs if you’re willing to work hard and get out of your comfort zone. Work for oil and gas industry and clear 120k with no experience, if you have the guts to work in the field.

Consequences of state-imposed monopoly - an outlandishly priced ‘license’ to drive a car from point A to Point B. And in NYC, 7/10 rides were adventures all to themselves.

Taxi drivers have no one to blame but themselves. Years of over charging and terrible service finally caught up to them.
-
Bullshit! You think if Uber and lyft drivers had to come up with a 1/4 of a million dollars (1/2 mil and more in some cities) they’d still be cheaper? The cities reaped the windfall for what they charged the drivers while never leveling the play field.

Not all taxi drivers owned their medallions... they sucked too.

Lesson in capitalism. If you overcharge for a poor quality service, eventually someone is going to figure out how to provide a better service for less money to compete.

Taxi medallions should have been handed out free each year using a lottery.

Drivers should sue. City changing laws “took their property without compensation”.

Too bad! The "taxi drivers" should have realized that their efforts to buy a government-guaranteed monopoly on a service that government did NOT own would ultimately come to grief. They didn't and now it has.
