In an analysis of data from 15 states, NPR found that women are far more likely than men to get in trouble for things prisons classify as smaller infractions.https://n.pr/2yFqjTr

Those tickets can have significant consequences: Women can lose phone or visiting privileges, go to solitary confinement or have time added to their sentence. https://n.pr/2yFqjTr pic.twitter.com/cjkbhFhB6C

A few states, including Illinois, are trying to change that by using a technique called gender-responsive correction practices.https://youtu.be/klnCZfK8rOc

That’s the idea that women are often in prison for different reasons than men and may respond differently in prison than men, and that prison rules need to recognize those differences.https://n.pr/2yFqjTr

Sounds look like they were being disrespectful to the COs. I've seen plenty of men go to the SHU for the same offenses.

If you’re disciplining any gender in prison, you’re doing something wrong. Punishment is a symptom of failure. Rehabilitation & respect promote collaboration. No one wants to be a criminal. They don’t have any options or know any better. don’t berate, educate.

you're against punishing people in general. I disagree but it's a pov. npr and some in this thread want WOMEN to not face punishment. not people in general. You can be sure npr and that other commenter definitely want "white dudes" punishes as severely as possible

I get what you mean. To clarify, I believe that prison itself - i.e. lack of freedom / isolation - should be / is the punishment and that anything beyond that is capricious and counterproductive. Re-integration should begin from day 1 of the sentence, including being respected.

They are in prison and they misbehave. Just because men have more respect for the guards does not make women victims. There is no right to lip off to guards!

80 to 90 percent of women in prison have been victims of sexual or physical violence- That matters when a corrections officer — yells an order. A woman with a history of abuse might react in a defensive way, sometimes she will shut down, ignore the officer or she might yell back.

Got any data to back up either of your claims? I've seen guys go to the SHU for not having shirts tucked in. Respect for authority in prison will be shown, male or female.
