Wouldn't surprise me if in the US, many of those elective c-sections are due to needing to work around strict/inadequate time off work schedules. Several new/soon-to-be -moms I know are choosing it because they know they can plan it like a dr's appt... we need #parentalleave now.

Mine wasn't elective, but the planning part sure was a nice side benefit. But I was fortunate to have a reasonable leave time (though not fully paid) and I can't imagine recovering from surgery with inadequate leave.
#parentalleave is key

This is unecessary surgery in many cases. It's done for the benefit of the doctor in many instances.

Doctors don't want to be called out in the night, so they pick a date and schedule C-sections. And get more money to boot!

And women are dying because of it.

When choosing products & services, women would not allow themselves to be bullied into buying products that can put them at high risk of short & long term significant complications, yet in birth women are often talked down to & bullied into uneccessary Csections

Recently was on a jury in a civil case involving a malpractice claim around child birth. A C-section would have avoided any problems. I can see why doctor's prefer them in a way I never could before.

Mine wasn't an elective but forcing my labor was a convenience for my doctor. I.E. she decided that a Monday would be a good day to induce. No medical reasoning except it was 1 day past my due date. Was induced, baby said no, then decelerated and needed extraction immediately

Yup. Common story.

Even if I've had a c-section, I don't really want to see this photo of one.

UCSF has comparatively low c-section rates because of how their staff physicians are employed. Might be worthwhile reevaluating hospital doctor relationships and move towards salaried positions like UCSF.

From the article: "The procedure is done when it is not really necessary or indicated"
