Insurance isn't affordable. Paying $200 a month for a plan that covers 40% of your bill AFTER an $8000 deductible is met IS NOT AFFORDABLE. Meeting an $8000 deductible BEFORE getting coverage to see a PC physician IS NOT AFFORDABLE.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to lash out at you. I know you're just trying to help. I'm just so frusterated with not being able to afford basic healthcare. I had to claim bankruptcy because I got sick and the number of other Americans doing the same is extraordinary.

I told my family "Never use an air ambulance. If I have to go to a big city hospital use UPS or FedEx."

We received a $68k bill for my son to be helicoptered out of Yosemite to the hospital in Fresno when he was very ill. That's insane. Thank goodness our health insurance covered it.

Have you heard the series
@NPR is doing on this? -
I think I saw them reach out maybe on Twitter. I wouldn't have guessed it'd cover helicopters or I might have responded.

In many places you can purchase an air ambulance insurance policy for about $60/year that covers your whole family. It’s a must-have for islanders.

At the time that one NEEDS an air ambulance or any emergency intervention, there is no knowledge of the costs. NO other services or goods are "purchased" without knowing the costs. THIS is the part of the health care process that must be changed.

My bill was for $30,000. The CT Office of the Health Care Advocate successfully pursed the case and Anthem paid the bill as a “one time administrate something”. Took over 1 year of appeals and many sleepless nights.

The "bill" is not a bill... It's an airline ticket, because they fly under airline faa rules... That's way they can charge whatever they want and insurance commissioners have no jurisdiction

I wish the article had mentioned the availability of air ambulance insurance, which covers the balance unpaid by regular insurance. My coverage is $65 per year and covers everyone in my household.
