Nope. This is a common mistake. We don't travel point to point in space. We throw our spacecraft from a moving target to a moving target. So, depots likely not to be anywhere along the flight path. Lunar resources could be useful, but will add cost/complexity. Reason for that 1/2

Also very aware that planet to planet trajectories are curves. Even if/when constant acceleration (non-ion) propulsion systems come out, the curves will be somewhat straighter but it’s still a curve.

2) Not the 1st such instance. WaPost did this when SpaceShip One “exploded”. Had a serious back & forth with them about aerodynamic instability @/near Mach 1 & that the crash site photos showed an intact fuel tank. They made the correction.
