For those wondering, the article makes no mention of why a suspect who already fled the country in response to their charges was given bail. That would seem to be the definition of a flight risk.

Rather low bail for someone who already showed he is willing to flee the country.

He fled to escape arrest, was found 8,000 miles away, yet is allowed to post bail. Epitome of white privilege.

Why on earth would they let him have a bail amount low enough to post when he’s already fled the country once?

I’m interested to see how this plays out for dating apps and websites. You have to be 18 to enroll. So do they have any accountability for facilitating a hookup between a minor and an adult? Shouldn’t they vet their members? I always assumed they did. Cody may have too.

What? That's crazy, they extradite him back to the States after he fled, then let him back on the streets so fast... wild with a side of poor planning. But, hey, that guy in Florida got 20 years for stealing cigarettes. Dang...
-
To be fair, that was also his 14th arrest. Come on.
-
Well then....
-
Spellman had 14 felony and 31 misdemeanor convictions prior to the cigarette theft - 45 arrests in total - he qualified as a habitual felony offender.
-
Technically you should get more for sexual assault. Because you’re actually damaging a person. Not an object.
-
I would agree. My comparison was a seemingly failed attempt at sarcasm. Now that I've been "educated" think it's absolutely ridiculous the dude was busted 45 times before being locked up. He was a repeat offender the 2nd time it happened.
-
Can only hope they don't give abusers 45 chances before locking them up.

Unbelievable. Just goes to show how insignificantly sexual assault is viewed by the judicial system.
