Y’all know this is exactly how Canada works right? You take an English test to immigrate to Canada; I know b/c I just took it. And spouses can’t work for yrs there either. It’s a pt system based on education/skills. Why would you let in immigrants who can’t contribute to society?

I think you missed the point - if you have a spouse who already has a work visa, and you're here with them because you're married, why can't your spouse work? It's not like they're taking jobs away from Americans. The GOP can't have it both ways.
-
The entire point is that they ARE taking jobs from Americans on account of their SPOUSE coming here. I don’t know if they are or aren’t, but that’s the basis for the law. Which is EXACTLY how it is in Canada and other developed countries.

other work/treaty visas like L1, J1, O1, E2 where spouse have work authorization. When congress created H1, EB immigration intent was to use H1 as a dual purpose visa. To fill skill shortage and if H1 worker decides to adopt US as perm home he can get GC for him/family 1)

There was no wait time/backlog in 1990s and this was b4 tech revolution. on applying GC u/family get EAD congress didn't bother to provide H1 spouse a work authorization. Now there is upto 150 years wait for certain nationals. This cause skilled spouse to be a forced homemaker 2)

To provide humanitarian relief for family in multiple decades long, Obama administration created
#h4EAD for only those h1 spouse who have GC application approved but they are backlogged. They are future US citizens and often job creators. 3) -
My brother's mother in law was a child of immigrant labor in the 1950s. She lived in SoCal and, when she was older, opened a dressmaking shop. She employed people. She paid salaries, and payroll taxes. She was deported under W because she didn't have a green card. Jobs were lost.

Many of these
#H4EAD are small business owners, entrepreneurs, doctors, dentists, lawyers starting their independent practice, employing lots of US citizens. Forcing them back in the cage will be detrimental to US economy. skilled immigrants wont come here if spouse cant work. - 1 more reply

And have these highly skilled jobs go unfilled and lose the value these workers bring? Who does that help?

This is basically how communities & business price out targeted demographic groups. A typical play from the conservative race book.

Why would highly educated people well respected in their fields would want to come to the US and be treated purely based on the color on their skin.
