While mispronouncing a student’s name may seem minor, it can have a significant impact on how they see themselves, causing feelings of anxiety, invisibility and shame. (via @KQED)https://n.pr/2pwy9ur

Yeah for sure, if they're already on shaky ground mentally. If they were raised with a good sense of self then they know who they are regardless of how anyone pronounces their name. If this is the worst thing that happens in life to a kid they are pretty damn lucky.

Mispronunciation ANYONE’S name more than 1x is disrespectful and insulting. Regardless of age.

I’m a teacher and I have anxiety regarding the pronunciation of names. I have 175 students and I attempt to make notes on the first day of school, I embarrassingly mess up unique names. Not b/c I don’t care but b/c I’m human. A little grace for everyone would go a long way. ✌️

Use your phone and take a 5-second video of each of your students pronouncing their names. Then you can review the videos at your leisure.

Not allowed to do that, especially on the first day. Students and parents need to sign media releases. ✌️

Can @KQED and @NPR do a story about students cussing at teachers and how that has "a significant impact on how they see themselves causing feelings of anxiety..." As if our job isn't hard enough... thanks for adding to the burden...I do my best every day!
