Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter to the attorneys for Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, saying his committee is investigating her accusations and the Monday hearing will proceed.

Grassley responded to her request for an FBI investigation as a first step, saying that the agency already completed a background check of Kavanaugh and it is now the Senate’s job to address any new issues.

He offered to dispatch committee investigators to interview Ford “at a time and place convenient to her.” Grassley reiterated the committee’s offer to allow Ford to testify in a closed session.
