first the mushroom post and now talking about mentally ill people going to prison, you should be ashamed of yourself! He is your president whether you like it or not. And if not, geeeeeeet out.

This is an issue that transcends a particular presidential administration, and people and media outlets including NPR have been talking about this during the Obama and Bush presidencies as well. Your reflexive defensiveness is telling.

This is from 2013, note, when Obama was president:https://www.npr.org/2013/09/15/222822452/what-is-the-role-of-jails-in-treating-the-mentally-ill …

Many people in jails and juvenile detention have not even been charged with a crime. They are developmentally disabled, psychotic, have a TBI, etc. They R jailed bec states have no other facilities to house/care 4 them.

True. The system spent enough time to diagnose my father as schizophrenic and then locked him away in solitary, but as far as I know has never worked on any treatment. In over 40 years. Lost cause or cause lost?

I've seen that when asked about medical problems the answer to mental health disorders is: that's not a medical problem. I know that a former friend who was in jail didn't get his psych meds. That seems to be a ongoing problem.

Don't even get started on the privately owned behavioral health centers. The treatment they provide should be investigated. And, profiting off people with mental health issues is just disgusting.
