I mean, I’ll go out on a limb here and assume you haven’t ridden particularly seriously. The spandex suit does a lot for comfort when you start going past only a few miles and helmets have saved my friends lives when they crash at over 35 mph on a descent.

That’s fine. I didn’t wear one when I rode to the liquor store or when I was just speed racing up and down my flat street as a child. But as an adult as the distances and speeds changed - my view of what was goofy did too.

I bought a ten dollar bike helmet at Wal-Mart. It’s not a counterfeit, it’s just a bottom of the line cheap helmet. Should I not trust it?

Check for certifications. Then vet the certifying organizations. https://helmets.org/standard.htm

This is misleading. The implication from the headline/pictures is that bike helmets should not break. The purpose of a helmet is to absorb the energy of an impact and transfer as little of the force to the head. Breakage is desirable under these circumstances.

Hit an expansion joint on a bridge at 15 mph. Double flip, landed on my head. Split helmet in half. I'm still here. Giro helmet.
