One last plea to diehard Remainers to understand why we voted to leave: it's all about the call of home. My latest in the :

Why does everybody in Brussels seem to buy into the notion that zero-tariff deal requires regulatory alignment on grounds that UK is geographically close? This is mad. -

As he has created, perpetuated and benefited from white privilege and racism Phoenix could have declined his award, ended his lucrative career, and given his millions to those he has oppressed. Amazed he didn’t. Playing to the woke gallery is better value.

Cracking scoop: Nissan drafts plan to double down on UK under hard Brexit. Japanese car maker would pull out of Europe but focus on 20% market share in Britain, up from 4%. Bad for Barcelona, good for Sunderland? via

The “don’t let terrorists divide us” mantra is unhelpful. We should accept there’s a divide - between extremists and those who want to stand up to them. But too few - esp on left - want to confront the Islamist ideology that scum like Amman believe in.

Yes. And meanwhile Razwan Faraz and Tahir Alam - of Trojan Horse fame - are back in education advising teachers and parents. Yet everybody pretends there isn’t a problem.

Eh? We leave the organs of the EU. What else changes? We will have rich and varied relations with Europe, the US and most of the world. We are on the Security Council and in NATO. We run the naval force in the Gulf. When didn't we have global interests?

Well Leo “Britain is just a small country” Varadkar certainly has a sense of humour.

My two cents on sports banter in the office: women can join in, but only after they have named 45 Premier League left-backs and their mothers’ maiden names

Most remainers are patriots just like leavers. But some of the diehards don’t even seem to understand what loving your country means. Clue: it’s not about where potatoes are from.

Britain abolished slavery years before Victoria became Queen and spent much of her reign suppressing it globally. The Royal Navy West Africa Squadron freed 150,000 Africans from some 1,600 slave ships – and lost some 1,600 men doing it. Where was on this one? 🤔

It strikes me as somewhat unwise for countries whose security & territorial integrity relies on British military & diplomatic firepower to support a threat to Britain’s territorial integrity. Let us remain good partners & allies.

This is *the* argument for Brexit. And one that has been made very well by people of the left since we considered joining. It’s to be governed by people who we can remove and hold accountable.

The Guardian’s “small island” front page encapsulates perfectly how diehard remainers are unreasonably pessimistic, and weirdly imperialistic.
