I'd almost at that point say keep doors the same as they are now but add something like this at the bottom of the door so you can push it with your shoe to avoid touching the door to begin with, similar to a foot pedal, but just on the door itself.

I think it might have something to do with safety? Having a foot pedal jotting out might trip someone in evacuation situation.

Enter the loo use dirty elbow to lock, use the loo wash hands, use dirty elbow to open. Go to seat, sit, touch elbow, arm rests etc. It’s just a placebo you still deal with the same issues.
