Business isn’t easy. Winning a national campaign is impressive. But international relations is played at a much higher level. Think it’s hard to beat Hillary in a game with rules? Try playing Xi in a game with none.

Pretty easy for a cheater to beat an honest opponent with effectively captured refs.

There are refs in business. Refs in elections (US elections, at least). No refs in IR.

Trump's biographies leave little doubt that he has long captured business refs. And election refs on the right have been clearly captured by neofascism (e.g., REDMAP, voter suppression), as were media by false balance and FBI/CIA by partasianship (e.g., Comey).

I'm not leaning to suggest some coordinated conspiracy of intention. Just a conspiracy of luck. Numerous systems that should have acted as refs failed catastrophically in 2016. Had any ref acted appropriately, Trump would not have won.
