The ignorant amateurs in the White House have been screwing up on North Korea since they agreed to a direct Kim-Trump meeting. Trumpist media made it worse by declaring mere talks a Nobel-worthy breakthrough. 2/x

But the mainstream media really didn’t help. So desperate to find something nice to say about Trump to show “balance” and counter charges of “bias,” they acquiesced to the Fox News narrative on North Korea, saying “credit where it’s due.” 3/x

North Korea’s showing the limits of Trump’s bullshitting. With hyperpartisanship, and friendly media providing a domestic propaganda apparatus, you can fool a large voter base. But that bullshit doesn’t work on foreign countries. International relations is a higher level game 4/x

What’s so frustrating is we told you. Repeatedly. Of course North Korea isn’t going to denuclearize. Of course they’re being manipulative. Didn’t need to be an expert to figure that out. But we kept shouting it. The confidently ignorant POTUS, and his fans, wouldn’t listen. (END)

Kind of like declaring failure before anything has actually happened?pic.twitter.com/zD995uKOqb

I didn’t use the word “failure.” That wasn’t an accident.
-
Claiming they are "never going to denuclearize" is declaring a failure, and you don't know if that is going to happen anymore than the people who were already declaring a Nobel Prize. And I'd argue there's literally only one person who does know.
-
Oh, on that one I’m very confident. The dumb part is making complete denuclearization the benchmark. If your standard for not a failure is North Korea giving up all nuclear weapons, you’re going to fail.
-
They'll push for de-nuke in exchange for US withdrawal, which we aren't going to do. They'll probably de-nuke but the DMZ and Kim regime isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Trump needs a win in these talks so badly that he has away any leverage he had. If North Korea’s states that it will not give up its nuclear weapons, what is the point of these talks?
-
Many possible positive outcomes: nuclear freeze, missiles. I'd like to see US ask the North Koreans to come clean about past black market activity, including flipping on anyone they sold to. Even just trust-building measures and greater interaction with the South could be good.

How can a country who is seeking recognition and acceptance as a nuclear power state want to denuclearize? Of course, he was never going to denuclearize. But he might succeed in achieving one thing: drive a wedge between the US and SK.

Kim Jong Un has wanted a summit for years as did his dad and granddad. It shows that the Americans respect him and see him as an equal. He will humiliate
