Cohen is a witness in a lawsuit against Trump. A witness in a civil case can take the 5th if testifying might implicate them in a crime. Further, in civil trial juries are allowed to infer "taking the 5th" suggests possible guilt.

Sure. But might and possible ≠ an admission.

Well the legal standard for witnesses in a civil trial is you can only take the 5th if you fear testifying opens you to criminal prosecution. That's precisely why jury can then interpret THAT by a defendant as admission of guilt if they want.

Criminal prosecution for what? Maybe something unrelated. And the fear could be unwarranted. Not saying that’s the case for Cohen, but I am cautioning against treating the 5th, and attorney-client privilege, as proof of guilt for a specific crime. Some do not use them maliciously

Generally not a good sign because there is a reason they are talking to you. Pleading the 5th makes him no more or less guilty than before he did. Plus, words can be twisted. Good reason to stay quiet. Example: pleading the 5th to McCarthy did not mean the person was a Commy.

All I know is if Congress, Mueller, DAs, and Fed. Prosecutors were after me, guilty or innocent, all they would get from me is "lawyer", "5th", and my middle finger. More importantly though, great game tonight.

True, what do you make of Cohen's attorney getting a 90 day trial delay in the Stormy Daniels case because the criminal investigation would force him to take the 5th? Didn't that move suggest guilt on his part?

Or, one is highlighting Trump’s hypocrisy...

I don't believe even Trump means it's an admission. But one can properly be dubious of someone's innocence if they so plead.
