Hm, don't think so. Being aware of the political climate doesn't necessarily mean basing law-enforcement decisions on that awareness.

I took it more as admitting it's impossible not to factor the political climate in, at least a little, rather than making the political climate the basis of decisions. Disagree?

That’s how I took it as well. However, the Supreme Court more or less makes its own rules/norms about political expression, and the Justices have an equal opportunity to conform, or not. DOJ practice is entirely different. Rules are written, and all must conform, esp. top leaders
