Abortion is murder but shouldn't be punished. How to square that circle? We punish killing except in self-defense, war (mostly), and accident (sometimes). Abortion is none of those. "Murder" is the word for unjustified killing that must, in the name of justice, be punished. 1/x
That adds to the contradictions with abortion = murder. A fetus is independent of the circumstances of its birth. A rape exception indicates it's not an entirely independent human being. Think of how this works with persons. If X rapes Y, Y is not then justified in murdering Z.

Exactly, if abortion is made illegal it has to be illegal in all situations, since the fetus is an innocent party. The difficulty is always weighing a women's rights vs a fetus she Carrie's. Not sure easy answers exist.
