Abortion is murder but shouldn't be punished. How to square that circle? We punish killing except in self-defense, war (mostly), and accident (sometimes). Abortion is none of those. "Murder" is the word for unjustified killing that must, in the name of justice, be punished. 1/x

Pro life people wiggle out of this argument by saying that the doctors performing the abortions are the ones who should be punished.
-
I've heard that, but it's insufficient. For one, women who choose abortion clearly participate in the act. That level of participation in murder is a serious crime. And what about abortions in which a doctor is not involved? Murder without a professional killer is still murder.

Thank you for this - I think that Don Marquis has presented a superb argument. (I am a Christian, and very pro-life)

I have just read the three articles. I am endlessly frustrated at the lack of position a womans bodily autonomy is normally given. One thanks for saying she has a voice, and thanks for the compelling new argument/tool you've given me..
