If you don't want to punish women who get abortions as murderers--or at least as accessories to murder--then you think abortion is justified killing, or you don't think it's murder at all. 2/x

I don't think it's murder, which makes it easy for me to say abortion should not be punished. As I argue in this article, it's not murder because a fetus is not the same as a person. But that doesn't mean it has zero moral value, like a few skin cells. 3/xhttps://arcdigital.media/the-legality-and-morality-of-abortion-5f771ebe27fd …

That article's part of a philosophical debate about abortion in
@ArcDigi, which I think is one of the best things we've published. Here's the first entry, by@bernybelvedere https://arcdigital.media/abortion-is-wrong-even-if-the-fetus-is-not-a-person-bd7552841366 … 4/xShow this thread -
Kevin Williamson saying women who get abortions should be hanged is ridiculous. But he's right that murder should be punished. I don't know Williamson's intentions, but he highlighted a contradiction in pro-life arguments. If abortion shouldn't be punished, it's not murder. (END)

Adding in my $.02, someone who has never had a uterus shouldn't be part of this convo.
-
I disagree. Someone who never had a uterus should keep that in mind, and make a point of listening to people who do/have. But everyone can think about, analyze, discuss any topic.
-
On any point but this, I agree. I've been around awhile. There is not one medical procedure a man can have that is as vilified as abortion.

Nothing to square. Abortion is murder like miscarriage is manslaughter. Bullshit! Until a fetus becomes a living, breathing, independent entity, it is just an organism inside a woman's body. Period. Try spending some time protecting actual children in poverty, war and abuse.

Who is going to take care of all the starving children once they get here though? I'm not pro abortion, but I don't want to have so many kids that we can't feed them either. We need to solve that solution before we ban abortion.
-
Those opposed to abortion have had since at least 1973 to answer that question. Still yet to see homes for unwed mothers sprouting everywhere. And that covers only the first 9 months or so...
-
Thank you! And, do we really want to have starving children in America? They're also wanting to cut Medicaid and other entitlements which will just make it worse. State agencies are barely getting by due to budget cuts as it is. Also there will be more back alley abortions.

I appreciate reasonable debate and positions, but yours in this case is not one of them. Take care, think before you tweet, and I’m blocking you now.
-
That tweet looks bad, but he's just laying out the argument he's about to disprove. Very interesting thread.

I’m going with self defense

Fair question that I honestly have to think about. Thank you for posting this thoughtful challenge.

Personally, I look at abortion as self defense. In my pov, someone is living inside me, necessarily harming me. USING my body for its purpose. Under other situations, that would be rape or slavery. If I do not consent, then it is self defense.
-
But you don't catch a baby like you catch a cold. And it isn't simply a parasite, coming to term it is a human being. I'm not saying you can't kill it, but that is what you're doing.
-
I've never doubted that a fetus is alive. Course, it's also brain dead, if we used medical terms. But it's why, for me, it's the fact that it resides in my body without consent. And yes, I took a role in creating it, but that doesn't make it any less harmful to me. 1/
