And the VA, in particular, is a killer challenge for even the most skilled and dynamic administrator. Jackson shows very poor judgment in accepting a post for which he has to know he's woefully ill equipped. By doing so, he disserves the veterans who rely on the VA.

That's my thought. I'm not sure why he feels he should accept this.
-
Maybe he thinks he'd be good at it (and it's possible he will be). Alternatively, he's active duty military and received a request from the commander in chief. Not an order, he can turn it down if he wants. But there's a strong cultural norm that when the CiC asks, you say yes.
-
That's at least plausible, and it's the most charitable interpretation. He probably does have ideas about how it should be different. But.

And yet trumps whole cabinet has some administrative skill from corporate industry etc. If you thinknit through its actually his first correct cabinet choice in his presidency. A veteran admiral and a doctor. Hmmm. I HATE trump but as a vet this doesnt sound nearly as bad as most
-
I hope Jackson succeeds, and could easily imagine worse fits Trump might pick. I've written elsewhere why business experience doesn't translate neatly into government administration. On first correct cabinet choice: Mattis was a good pick for DoD.
-
Was. Until he wasnt. I do worry that trump will have a corrupting effect here also.

The two biggest fallacies of the last election were; 1) rich people are smarter than others, 2) expertise in one field carries over into other fields. Both are extremely false.

Ben Carson claims to be a brilliant surgeon, but hasn’t published scholarly papers. He managed surgeons at very young age and managed a large team for a very risky high profile procedure (separating conjoineds) but we should take his brilliance with grain of salt.
-
We have evidence that he is brilliant at self promotion and separating rubes from their money, but at some point we have to judge him on his extensive record of talking narcissistic idiocy, and not solely the administration of a dept at a prestigious academic medical center.

He performed a tabloid covered surgery but the data on his day to day competence has never been shown. Why did he leave Hopkins to become a professional Christian?
