It’s noted that Trump’s threatening posture is the reason Kim is coming to the table now. But isn’t it as equally likely now because he knows Trump is at a nadir of public support, has many looming scandals, and he (Trump) is therefore in his weakest negotiating position?

As I note in the article, Kim's coming to these talks in a position of strength. But it appears they've been planning this for a while, which means Trump's latest scandals aren't a big factor. NK weapons development and SK electing a pro-negotiation president likely matter more.
