Aren't you being a bit generous here? Could you work as a sr foreign policy advisor to a POTUS who exhibited frequent dalliances with white nationalists? As to self-sacrifice, am fairly certain he'll quickly land on his feet on Wall St, w/ a multi-million dollar annual package.

A bit generous, yes. Still... I go back-and-forth on this. I would much rather have smart, sane people in important positions--Mattis and McMaster come to mind--than the alternatives, even though it requires them to deal with everything else. But I couldn't put up with it.

Didn't expect you could or would, Mr. Grossman. Re: going back-and-forth on this: understand—but perhaps lack of senior staff resigning on principle helps keep this train wreck of a presidency from reaching a tipping point when key elements of GOP are forced to abandon him.
-
Maybe that underlies my back-and-forth: I'm skeptical that key elements of the GOP will ever abandon him. Many are tied to the mast, and will float or sink along with the Trump presidency. And, in general, I never want the country to get worse in the hope that makes it get better

To your point, there's this and numerous other examples: http://53eig.ht/2pSXaOa . Also, more districts gerrymandered toward GOP. Still, we approach mid-terms, when history favors opposition party. This year may also catapult participation of Ds,/defection of Rs. [1/2]

At some point, an act of conscience at senior-most levels may suffice as a tipping point to help surface GOP "center" (I know, a very shaky construct)—say, a Mattis or McMaster. And sometimes, getting better requires hitting a bottom—scary as that gets. [2/2]

This is a fair take of a potential scenario that could be true. Not sure it is. And doubtful that it is simply because those who typically chose to serve in corrupt regimes aren't typically well intentioned. But I'm sure some are sometimes. Need more context for strong opinion.
