As you can see from this graph, US steel production hasn't declined. SecDef Mattis says just 3% of US steel production meets all the military's needs. So again I ask: what's the problem?pic.twitter.com/KwcQ3evJVA

Oh come on @NGrossman81, it isn't about empirical reality or evidence, and you know that. You are operating in a totally different paradigm. For Trump, it's about what he believes regardless of any evidence of the contrary. It's all bullshit populist crap.

Even if that's not what drives the president, it influences others. While many believe whatever Trump says, some might believe him because they're not aware of the pertinent facts. And there's also value in empirical reality for empirical reality's sake.

I agree & I’m not saying at all that empirical reality does matter (I’d just burn my degree if I said that LOL). All I’m saying is neither POTUS nor his supporters is driven by data. +, analyses show that facts don’t change the mind of those who believe in conspiracy theories

I'm not disagreeing, except for one thing: Just because many people's opinions won't be swayed by facts does not mean no one's will.

I agree with you. But I think there is a caveat—i.e., I think those who are persuaded by facts & empirics etc have already moved away from Trump or are withholding their support. Otherwise his favorables won’t have a hard ceiling at 40 since he’s taken office.

The real heart of the problem is that US Citizens are barely taught any economics, so they buy the economic fallacies and nonsense peddled by statists of every stripe
