Congress has the power to stop the tariffs. They're choosing not to. At least Trump (and Wilbur Ross) think it's good for the country. They're wrong. But still. Ryan and McConnell *know* the tariffs are bad for America, and they're not doing anything about it.

You can have this phrase in your drafts ready to go anytime: "Ryan and McConnell *know* [fill in the bad proposals/appointments here] are bad for America, and they're not doing anything about it"

Two thoughts: 1) It is too early for McConnell & Ryan to act because 2) They know, as I believe, that there is a high probability that Trump will not actually impose the tariffs. He’ll threaten and then back off by inventing an imaginary victory the base will lap up.

Trump’s reason for issuing these tariffs was national security. They hit America’s allies, particularly Canada, hard. Members of Congress know that a trade war with allies will not bring either security or prosperity. Why don’t they act on that knowledge?

I think they should vote to stop the tariffs. Heck, I think they should impeach before letting them go through. There won't be a veto proof majority and perhaps a majority at all. Some Rs like them, won't X Trump, many Dems LOVE them, they and others know tariffs crush GOP.

They could be creative and tie the infrastructure bill to no tariffs.

There isn't time. I suppose they could withdraw presidential authority, maybe repeal later. Am sure they want to. They know it's horrible for the country AND for the GOP politically. Guessing there will be a hard full court press to talk him out of it or at least significantly

restrict the scope and applicability of the damage. But I'm expecting the worst and aggressively suppressing keeping all hope for a not completely catastrophic policy.

From everything I've seen and read this was Trump spewing off with no regard for its effects or even consulting with anyone. I seriously don't think this is going to fly...allies are flipping out about it. Will be quietly sidelined as more DJT hot air nonsense.
