Stoneman Douglas wasn't gun free. Neither was Columbine. Both had armed security guards. Ft. Hood and the Navy Yard were the opposite of gun free. Maybe mass shooters aren't calm, rational people deterred by the possibility someone at their target will be armed.

FT Hood was gun free.

It's a military base. There were firearms at the base, even if everyone wasn't carrying on their person.

Not at all. I'm responding to the claim that mass shooters would be deterred by the *possibility* someone at the location they're targeting is armed (even if no one is).

The mass shooter at Fort Hood was well aware that the area he was attacking was literally gun free as he was stationed there.
-
He didn't start shooting at the post gate where there was an armed MP.
