Vichy? You mean Vichy? No, it’s not. I know people bristle at being compared to Nazis. But when you applaud someone praising Nazi collaborators—the actual WWII Nazis—you’re kinda asking for it.https://twitter.com/yashar/status/966727566236188679 …

      In case you think I’m exaggerating, here’s Marion le Pen’s grandfather:https://www.timesofisrael.com/frances-jean-marie-le-pen-defends-vichy-leaders-deal-with-nazis-in-memoirs/ …

Oh, it’s such a shame the Americans showed up and liberated France from the Nazis. Yay, Marion! 👏👏 We hate immigrants too!

Marion Le Pen pining for her grandparents' France is not at all what I mean when I use the word "conservative." And I know it's CPAC, not an official Republican party event. Wish I could say it's a small fringe. But 2018 lineup reflects where the energy ishttps://arcdigital.media/conservative-intellectuals-lost-control-of-conservatism-f64ad146bec2 …

Nazis bad. It's such a layup. An empty net. A multiple choice test you get in advance. A pick your metaphor for something incredibly easy how could you mess this up?!? *exasperated sigh* (END)

I’ve been looking for good numbers of German occupation troop levels and losses 1942-43, so when there was no combat with non-French forces. Hints that we’re looking at ~40,000 troops, if that (what’s occupation and what’s facing Allied forces?). It’s not a morass for Germany.

But it would be nice to know more. Lots of collaboration accepted post-war (for good reason, given its massive extent?), for instance the Parliament voting in 1953 to amnesty the French SS perpetrators of the 600+ massacre in Oradour-sur-Glane.

No exaggeration, I am surprised CPAC did line up one of those Holographic generations they could have had Himmler Goebbels and Hitler in the original German What an insult to the millions who left an authoritarian Europe to have the muck wash up on their shores preaching
