Many mass shooters plan to kill themselves. All expect police. Stoneman Douglas, Pulse nightclub, even Columbine had armed guards. Vegas casino (and concert) had many. Ft. Hood's a military base. There's no reason to believe the problem is insufficient deterrents.https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/966660169194229761 …

If that’s the logic than schools should have a guard force not armed teachers. Teachers engage/protect students. They are not on patrol looking for threats.

I agree. And as you point out, giving teachers that responsibility in addition to their main tasks is another argument against. My point is that there's no argument that arming teachers would successfully deter school shooters. There's at least some logic that they could respond.

Part of being armed is that it is a deterrent because “rational criminals” understand their personal risk. Those attacking schools are not “rational criminals” thus armed teachers are no deterrent but equal a greater risk

Well we see today that an armed police officer did not enter that school to run to the threat despite the fact that it was his very job to do so. And we expect that giving a teacher a gun will automatically mean they will run to the threat and engage in mortal combat? Delusional
