The studies he cited might be the scientific consensus, but they're misapplied. They study the entire population. Google and other major tech companies recruit from a small subset. Unscientific to assume correlations among the general pop apply to every subgroup. Apples-oranges.https://twitter.com/DrDebraSoh/status/965289170607407104 …

Damore's memo wasn't a rant; it was feedback invited by Google. Regardless of what Wikipedia says, the studies he cited are the scientific consensus https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/no-the-google-manifesto-isnt-sexist-or-anti-diversity-its-science/article35903359/ … https://twitter.com/ENBrown/status/965208312148058112 …

So you're saying equal representation is an unrealistic, unscientific expectation?

Literally equal--meaning the demographic breakdown of any given organization perfectly matches the demographic breakdown of the country? Yes, definitely. That's an unrealistic expectation.

But isn't that the assumption Google was using? I think Damore was, at the least, closer to reality than Google management.

No. The main assumption Google's using is that moving closer to equality is preferable to the status quo. Damore countered that the status quo (or something close) derives from biology and is therefore desirable.

From the memo: "Differences in distributions of traits between men and women may in part explain why we don't have 50% representation of women in tech and leadership." "May" and "in part" seem cautious enough to me.
