The argument that 21st century US civilians need guns to prevent government tyranny—not have a right to bear arms, not want for self-protection, but need as anti-gov deterrence—sounds like something no one’s dumb enough to believe. And yet people keep saying it as if they do.

You know, I’d have more respect for that argument. Wouldn’t support it, but at least those could make the government think twice Instead, there’s this weird self-aggrandizement. No, random guy with some rifles, the US gov’s not afraid of you. The FBI isn’t, let alone the military

It's exactly the reason the second amendment exists, though.

It’s not. The US didn’t have a professional military then and the founders thought prepared militias would be necessary to defend against foreign invasion (especially from the British). But even if it were, it makes no sense today.

If you read Federalist 46, it is about taking up arms against a federal government, not the Brits. RKBA is a hedge against a regular army "entirely at the devotion of the federal government" http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/fed46.asp …

I've seen exactly that lame-ass argument used just this morning: I particularly enjoyed "Mousillini". I thought that was an Italian a soft prepared food that incorporates air bubbles to give it a light and airy texture?pic.twitter.com/ynfMBJBlZB

Yeesh. Anyone want to tell him about popular support for/lack of domestic resistance to fascism in 1930s Italy and Germany?

There is nothing that Trump's 30%-of-voting-America is not too stupid to believe if it confirms what they already want to believe. Nothing. That's how Trump got elected.pic.twitter.com/kAyIsrA3i9

I think there is a reason tyrannical regimes confiscate firearms as they consolidate power. That and speech destabilize those regimes because they allow even the appearance of restistance.

Yup, agree, it’s bizarre, but I’m starting to think we need guns to protect against the tyranny and terrorism of Dotard supporters. A ton of whack jobs out there with guns.
