SUPER BOWL ADS HOT TAKE 1) Many meta ads acknowledging they were ads. Tide repeatedly (and best), but also Jeep, fake Dundee Australia tourism, the one with the internet-style “skip ad” in the corner for a product I forgot (not a great sign), and others. 1/x

2) Many ads showcasing diversity and togetherness. Babies of all races who can do anything, various religious leaders going to a game and rooting for the same team, many multiracial families. Anti-Trumpist, but not as blatant as last year’s one with Mexican immigrants. 3/x

3) Only one Trumpist ad: Weathertech touting a factory built in the US (“as it should be”) with a bunch of flag shots. Businesses clearly think there’s more money in diversity and inclusiveness than nationalism. 4/x

4) And somebody thought it was a good idea to quote MLK to sell cars. No, I don’t really think the ads say Where We Are As A Country. But they do give a hot-take-worthy year-to-year snapshot. (The game was awesome. One of the best ever). (END)

Another “mood of America” ad: Groupon’s rich white guy gets hit in the groin (or stomach? seemed more like stomach) and black woman laughs about it.
