Thank you for eroding repressive social norms so that we--the silent majority--can openly agree with you.

This is such a great response. I saw your reply before I saw what you were replying to, and since I primarily write about politics, my first thought was "oh crap, what did I say?" But then I saw. The original's overrated. I liked it, but it's overrated. The new one was great.

Without saying which cut of Blade Runner you are comparing, the point is moot.
-
I never saw the original theatrical cut, so I'm basing this on the director's cut and Scott's "final cut" that was released about a decade ago.

Second may be more visually sumptuous than the first. But, as an act of pure cinema, with philosophical and thematic underpinnings worthy of solid literature? The bloated 2049 isn't in yelling distance of Scott's director's cut.
-
My comment’s more a compliment to 2049 than an insult to the original. Besides the visuals, I found the story more engaging, and the philosophical look at memory as good if not better.

Can Roger Deakins win for Best Cinematography? Please? That film was shot spectacularly

I need to sit down and run through them both again but I'm pretty sure this is true.
