Martin Luther King is like a Founding Father -Venerated by nearly all Americans -Remembered selectively and often sanitized -Appropriated to make political points -Assumed to agree with whatever you currently think Besides Lincoln, do any other non-Founders have similar status?

If anyone else qualifies, that's probably the best pick. He's on Mount Rushmore, and given really positive treatment in pop culture. There's some opposition today to TR's role in conservation and anti-trust, but usually the criticism is against the concepts, rather than him.

TR's work on antitrust (which stopped woefully short of where it needed to go) is what I loved most about him and what
#America desperately needs again. unfortunately, antitrust is not the sexiest issue to run on.pic.twitter.com/UV5uwkrphR
