No, no, no. The point isn't Oprah's "appeal" or her "charisma." She's got tons of both and that would make her a formidable candidate. But America needs someone who would be a good president. Who knows how to govern. Getting elected is much less important than running the countryhttps://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/950550182965534721 …

Meanwhile, the media focuses on horse races, and pushes a politics-as-sports narrative rather than treating governing as difficult and important. And they go gaga over celebrities who may (or may not) run. I'll admit I don't know how to fix this. But it's a big problem. (END)

Oh c’mon! You cannot equate her past “roles in government” with the power of a President who has the backing of Congress. Totally specious argument, wadr to your bona fides.

That's why I wrote "no, those don't actually make sense."

Oh! Now I see what you did. I apologize for my first-read misunderstanding.

No problem. It happens.

Thank you. Knee-jerk, rush to judgment: Twitter.

So. I agree with your rant. But, I don’t think
@NateSilver538 is arguing Oprah *should* be president. I think the argument is that she could be president. America be dumb. -
I think you're right. But my criticism is that the public discussion should be primarily focused on whether she should be president, rather than whether she could get elected. Focusing on the latter, like Silver and so many others, reinforces the idea that that's what matters.
-
Sounds like you are arguing that the media should be shaping opinion rather than just reporting on it, which I kinda agree with, but also infuriates most folks.

The fact that Hillary accomplished very little is a valid signal.

Hillary Clinton, had plans, strategies, perspective, experience, she knew capable people, could have built an incredible team. She is stronger than strong, determined. America blew it by going with "feel good" candidate. Oprah gave a great speech. So??
