His electoral victory is impressive. He manipulated the media (better than anyone ever), tapped into a large constituency's grievances, and motivated them to go to the polls. As a result, he beat the favorites in both the primary and the general election. That's not easy. 2/x

But manipulating the media and tapping into a loud, large minority’s grievances are skills that do not translate well to running the country. Kind of like how Ben Carson’s a great surgeon, but bad politician. Or how you wouldn’t ask Tom Brady to design a skyscraper. 3/x

That’s why supporters—and Trump himself—keep citing the election. It’s his big achievement. The thing he did that few others could. That’s impressive in isolation, but doesn’t mean he’s smart. Certainly not in the capable-of-handling-anything way we expect of presidents. 5/x

In fact, his media-manipulation and grievance-mongering skills (combined with a lack of others) are terrible for the presidency. Shorter version: he’s mostly an idiot, but very talented in some areas. Alright, that’s it. Now... Let’s go Buff-a-lo-o! (END)
