Here's private sector employment in the US. The post-Great Recession expansion started in April 2010. Can you detect any difference between 2010-2016 (Obama) and 2017 (Trump)? Look at the 2003-2007 expansion (Bush). See a big difference? Presidents. Don't. Control. The. Economy.pic.twitter.com/Ux3xYTh5UC

I don't mean taxes, spending, regulations, trade policy, etc. are irrelevant. Nor that December's strong jobs report isn't good news. Just that it's weird seeing people give the president so much credit/blame. Especially when the president changed and job growth didn't.

Sub 150K isn’t a strong report by any means of the imagination (actually, it shows a deceleration). Even if we look at the internals, it is still not strong.

It's hardly the best month ever, but it's pretty good. The US is basically at full employment, so net job creation puts upward pressure on wages and encourages people who stopped looking to try again.

We still have a 0.5% or so to go to get to full employment. Even at this level, with job market tightening, we aren’t seeing other factors kick in such as income growth, which is still anemic (barely 0.3% if we take CPI into consideration)
