What sense does that make?

Because people think proving Trump is not mentally sound will be easier than proving collusion with Russians.pic.twitter.com/Wk2ii86Elz

“Collusion with the Russians” isn’t the most likely impeachment charge. Obstruction of justice, corruption, and abuse of power all stronger cases, and have historical precedent.
-
Obstruction of the Mueller investigation? Corruption, violating emoluments clause? Abuse of power, them promoting their brands like executive Kardashians?

Impeachment unlikely unless Dems win the House & take office in 2019, or damning Mueller charges. Conviction needs many GOP defections even if Dems win the Senate. A diagnosis of cognitive impairment & inability to discharge duties could trigger 25th Amendment moves quicker.
-
Why? The same Republicans would have to vote for either. It just takes more for 25th.
-
It would be a lot easier politically to jump ship if you have top medical or psychiatric experts say that 45 is medically unfit and his tenure is dangerous for the nation.
-
The book comments about inability to focus, short-term memory problems, repeating oneself, are scary to anyone who's known dementia victims.

I'm not a supporter of removal via 25th Amend. in our current circs. It is, however, easier than you indicate. Removal requires only that the VP and a majority of the Cabinet NOTIFY the Pres pro tem of the Senate and the Speaker of the House that POTUS is unable to discharge+
-
the duties of the office. No action by Senate or House is required, following such notification. Congress only wd get involved if a dispute later arose between POTUS and the 'Acting President,' i.e., if POTUS subsequently notifies Congress that his previous disability has +
-
ended, and he's ready to resume the office, and if the Acting President and majority of Cabinet continue to assert POTUS' disability, there's a fact-finding role for Congress to settle the dispute.
-
Unless the president accepts it--and there's no reason to assume he would--then it's up to Congress and requires 2/3 of both houses. That's a higher bar to clear.
-
True, in terms of procedure. But can you imagine the political situation if VP and a majority of the Cabinet continued to insist POTUS is disabled, while POTUS is denying it ? The VP & Cabinet wd only have triggered 25th A. after carefully lining up support on Hill.+
-
In current situation, I think Trump wd be history as soon as Pence and cohort make their move. It wd. represent the GOP's face saving way of removing him, side stepping full airing of 'crimes & misdemeanors' in impeachment process.+
-
So, I think GOP elites may be attracted by 25th A. at some point. They're increasingly disconnected, however, from the Trump 'base' and Trump, or someone acting on his behalf, cd easily call that base into the streets with cries of 'Deep State coup !' Therein lies danger.

Just guessing. Maybe if the cabinet does it first and it's based on ability as opposed to political views, it saves face for the GOP?

Why bother with either. both will be futile as the president has done nothing wrong and is in full possession of his faculties and his health. Here's novel idea, instead of trying to get rid of every president we ever get, why not try to work WITH them to solve REAL problems?
