The only case I can make is that our leader is as unhinged as North Korea’s and maybe Trump will actually call Kim Jong Un’s bluff

The problem with that is Kim cares about how he looks domestically as well as internationally. Could prompt him to act aggressively for the domestic audience (generals etc.), regardless of international risks.

If I had to make a case, it'd be a variation on the Madman Theory. Convince China the US might actually attack, prompting China to try and rein in North Korea. But that requires delicate execution, and I'm not confident the Trump administration can pull it off. Or is even trying.

"No one's bothering"? Because there's no case to be made. It's reassuring, in a way, that no one is yet crazy enough to try.

Sort of. A little. I guess.

Here's a hot take. 1. It's so petty that if Kim responds, he looks even more petty and childish. 2. If he doesn't respond militarily it proves that he's bluffing. 3. If it is demonstrated he is bluffing, that weakens his regime. 4. If he does respond militarily, game over.

I agree. That is a hot take.
