Kushner accidentally distilled the fundamental error underlying the Trump admin's misguided foreign policy. "I'm a businessman, and I don't care about the past." But international relations ≠ business. Business is transactional. Foreign policy is about building relationships.

Businesspeople rely on government. If someone breaks a contract, the wronged party can sue, and the government enforces the verdict. (Or they can use bankruptcy laws to screw their partners, and the government won't allow violence in response).

Trump and Kushner's business strategies rely on a government-enforced environment. There's no such thing in foreign policy. And they're terrible at building the lasting, trusting relationships that lead to success. Sorry, Jared. In international relations the past matters. A lot.

Caring about the past would also make them better businessmen
