Stop calling the tax bill undemocratic. Yes, I know polls say it's very unpopular. And no, I don't think it's good policy. But elected majorities in the House and Senate voted for it and the president signed it. We don't govern by public opinion poll.
It’s fair to say some democratic systems are better than others (though that prompts the question—according to what standards?) But not that some laws legally passed by elected majorities in this system are democratic and others undemocratic.

The standard should be that the elected representatives should reflect the population as accurately as possible. Our electoral participation is so low, in comparison to other countries, because two choices is simply not enough.
-
If third parties had a true chance to form coalitions with major parties you would see voter participation skyrocket. Voters could actually vote FOR a candidate or party rather than for the “lesser of two evils”.
-
Our system can be considered border line democratic and ANY decisions resulting from that system can validly be classified as borderline undemocratic. In a true democratic system no way the
#TaxScamBill gets passed.
