In the figure of speech, buying into IBM or bitcoin or whatever before almost anyone else knows about it, and without being able to predict its growth, is like being on the ground floor of a tower constructed *without* a stable (therefore predictable) blueprint, ie on faith.

So I guess a rational person—maybe me; not a *bad* bet, ha ha—would temper their chagrin at not having gotten in on bitcoin at 8¢ (today, $13,800) with their relief at not having gotten in on tulips at more than, what, a dollar a bulb.
