Attending a dinner celebrating the 10th anniversary of Russia’s premier propaganda outlet as a guest of honor probably didn’t help. But neither that nor Mueller’s request for documents proves she’s a foreign agent. Dumb, maybe. Used as a prop. But not necessarily a witting agent.https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/942901397594533889 …
As a fringe political figure, it's possible she'll say yes to any invitation from someone she's heard of. Not saying that's the answer (I don't know), but it's one of a few plausible explanations.

This tweet has a short list of Stein's fringiness (she still doesn't 'believe' that Russia interfered in the election,
#CmonMan); if she's unwitting, then she's either insanely dogmatic or the least witting person alive, ha hahttps://twitter.com/cjcmichel/status/942885083337449472 … -
When you see some of the things she's said about September 11th, vaccines, and other topics, it's less difficult to see her Russia-related statements as fringey, rather than conclusive evidence of a conspiracy.

I was thinking of that: she's an anti-vaxxer, so at least a little, what, goofy. But she's well-educated, well-spoken… I guess I'd like to hear her resist a strongly-made case of the evidence of a Russian attack before I went with crazy rather than treasonous.

But let's assume that you don't get that far without having a reason to be invited. Putin is an ex ugh agent. Everything he does has a purpose. Her going there shows some willingness on her part. It's quite an alarming picture. You have to be previously approached.
