Well, if Mueller could *prove* that Stein was a fifth-columnist, he'd have arrested her. Gathering evidence, sowing distrust among confederates, extracting self-protective but informative plea deals, &c: it's a time-consuming process. She seems to be in #usefulidiot trouble.

Or maybe no trouble at all. There could be nothing in the docs, or they could contain something that informs the investigation without incriminating Stein or anyone on her campaign. Regardless, from what we know, useful idiot seems much more likely than witting agent.

Why are You trying so hard to clear her name? Did you work with her? Do you know her?
-
I'm not. No. No.

It just feels like there's a big population that thinks she just accidentally was brought there and didn't know better. It makes me a little mad.

As a fringe political figure, it's possible she'll say yes to any invitation from someone she's heard of. Not saying that's the answer (I don't know), but it's one of a few plausible explanations.

This tweet has a short list of Stein's fringiness (she still doesn't 'believe' that Russia interfered in the election,
#CmonMan); if she's unwitting, then she's either insanely dogmatic or the least witting person alive, ha hahttps://twitter.com/cjcmichel/status/942885083337449472 … -
When you see some of the things she's said about September 11th, vaccines, and other topics, it's less difficult to see her Russia-related statements as fringey, rather than conclusive evidence of a conspiracy.

Here's a moment. Let's remember that she is smart, and she knew what she was doing. Why are we suddenly thinking she wasn't aware?
